Marking the 20th anniversary of the ever-popular Dulux Colour of the Year, the hue for 2023 has been unveiled as Wild Wonder™. This positive and energetic shade is inspired by the warm tones of harvested crops that connect us to the natural world.
Designed to capture the wonders of the earth and help us to connect with nature in our living and working spaces, Wild Wonder™ and its accompanying palettes bring the outside in to enhance our sense of wellbeing.
Every year leading trend experts, encompassing architects, authors, cultural analysts, editors, designers, and technology innovators, bring together insights from across the globe to reflect how people are living in the moment. These trends are then translated into the Colour of the Year.
A spokesperson from Dulux explained the thinking behind this year’s name: “To encapsulate the inspiration behind the Dulux Colour of the Year for 2023, the name Wild Wonder™ was chosen. ‘Wild’ to conjure up the freedom of nature and ‘Wonder’ to convey the natural magic we see all around us.”
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the UK’s number one paint brand’s annual colour celebration and shows how there’s been a move towards neutrals over the past two decades. Wild Wonder™ is the culmination of this shift and marks the first time that the colour and its four accompanying palettes focus solely on Mother Nature.
Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director at Dulux, comments: “Wild Wonder™ speaks to us in a language we instinctively understand. Nature is what inspires us and makes us feel better in our lives and in our homes. That’s why, for the first time in 20 years, our entire colour palette is inspired by the rhythms of the natural world.”
To facilitate whole home decorating projects, Wild Wonder™ is supported by four colour palettes; Lush, Buzz, Raw and Flow, which reflect different moods to offer something for every room.
