Can you tell us about the type of property you live in?

We live in a rural Georgian farm house near the Suffolk coast. It used to be an old dairy farm so we have a few barns that we’ve converted into holiday lets. I love the symmetry, big square rooms, high ceilings and fireplaces. We are very lucky to have lots of original features.

How would you describe your style?

Almond grey and oak topped Shay 7-drawer chest in neutral scheme with flowers.

I’m mostly drawn to neutral styling, I find it quite calming but also love accessorising with a bit of colour. I am getting braver! I love the modern country/farmhouse chic look. Instagram is a great place for helping you find your style.

When did your interest in interiors start?

Bevel natural oak freestanding larder in neutral kitchen with flowers and green wreath.

My first interest in interiors was way back when I was a student in London studying interior design. I loved home decor, styling rooms and collecting design books, samples and swatches. I’d spend hours daydreaming and trawling around shops like Heals, Habitat and Conran.

Did you start your Instagram account at the same time?

Laura Sunderland's farmhouse kitchen styed with flowers and greenery

My Instagram account started a few years ago with a vase of flowers in my kitchen and became a way of just documenting things I loved. It very quickly fell into home interiors, decor and home styling. It’s a wonderful place for inspiration.

Which are your favourite rooms to style?

Bevel natural oak larder in a rustic kitchen, organised with stylish storage.

I have a few favourite rooms. My kitchen is my favourite, it’s where I spend most of my time! I also love styling our dining room. It’s a calm and happy space and I love doing tablescapes.

What are your top tips for making a house a home?

I always say go with what you like because you have to live there. Accessorising with cushions, rugs, flowers and candles is great for pulling a homely feel together.

Can you tell us about the different Oak Furnitureland pieces you have and how you’ve styled them?

Natural oak Bevel larder open filled with wine, kitchen accessories and crockery.

I’ve had two pieces of furniture from Oak Furnitureland; the Shay seven-drawer chest of drawers and the large Bevel larder cupboard. Both take pride of place in my bedroom and kitchen respectively. The chest of drawers is styled simply with a large vase of faux flowers, a candle and smaller bits. The larder is filled with lots of fabulous labelled storage jars and baskets. It’s the perfect space!

How do you change your home according to the seasons?

I’m always switching cushions, vases, throws, flowers and candles. I’m a bit of a furniture mover too. In our living room for example I bring the sofas closer together and nearer the fire for a cosier, less formal feel.

Are there any other Oak Furnitureland pieces that you’ve got your eye on?

Ha, ha yes! My husband has taken over my office because he’s working from home a lot more. So I’m plotting a revamp so we could possibly fit another desk in there.
