We’re all familiar with red, orange and gold at this time of year, but what about something different? We’re seeing more and more use of dark colours in homes, and this season is no exception. Dark blues, greens, greys and blacks are more popular as accents in the home, and people are getting braver with their choices too.
But if you’re still not convinced that painting a few walls in Farrow & Ball’s Pitch Black is for you, there’s still a lot you can do in your home to embrace this trend. So let’s look at some ways you can accessorise with dark colours this autumn.
Dark art

If you don’t want to cover the walls in darker shades, you can easily bring in a little mood with some dramatic art. Our Reflections wall art, which has been exclusively designed for Oak Furnitureland, makes a statement and also features a black frame to add to the overall look.
Moody cushions
This is one of the easiest ways to update your home and bring in some darker hues. Treat yourself to a new set of cushions (we can never have too many right?) in blues or greys, and even co-ordinate this look with a new rug. Decide on one or two shades if you’re adding them to a white, minimal space as you don’t want to lose the essence of the scheme and drown it in the moody shades.
Creative accessories

Another straight forward way to add darker colours to your home this autumn is to look out for creative accessories, ones that you wouldn’t get in a paler shade, that work really well in something darker. Our Albani wall clock, in a muted sage tone, makes a fantastic feature of the fireplace and looks especially good teamed with the warmer green wall colour.
Go for it on the wall

It might seem a bit daunting, but dark colours can really transform that space. We love how @on_the_no.6 has used Farrow & Ball‘s Down Pipe to create a dramatic feature wall that pairs perfectly with our Highgate range.
So are you inspired to try out some of these ideas for yourself? This is the ideal time of year to experiment with moodier hues and and trying it out in small areas of your home is a good way to see if you can live with this look.
